Barracuda redundancy of ESG 300 with cloud

We are using Barracuda ESG 300 model. CPL is configured & all emails first arrives on barracuda cloud which filters and then forward emails to our Firewall Router (which have our public ip and this firewall accepts smtp emails traffic from barracuda CPL range only) , then thsi firewall router routes emails to our local ESG 300 device.

Recent Audit on our email infrastructure raised an objection that we donot have redundancy for our ESG.
We answered them that we have CPL + ESG, so in case if our ESG goes down, CPL will still protect and we can still receive emails.
So my query is What if ESG device goes down/faulty , CPL will protect us right? CPL will send the emails to our Firewall Router & we will change the rule in Firewall Router to route emails directly to our email server instead of ESG. Will this technically work?
