5 hours of no incoming emails on Barracuda Spam Firewall while Exchange down???

So yesterday we had a pretty serious crash: about 5 hours with no mail server.
We're using our Barracuda Spam Firewall for our incoming emails so whatever is being sent to us hits the Barracuda box first and then our Exchange server.
However, during these 5 hours we barely got anything. I don't think that the Exchange being down is even relevant but I'm just mentioning it just in case. The message log in the Barracuda device shows nothing and the in/out queue on the dashboard shows 0/0 so there's nothing waiting to come in. I called Barracuda but they basically said that if the queue shows "0" then there's nothing they can do but It's just doesn't feel right to me. I mean, we're getting tons of emails every hour, tons...

Any idea?
